In the Fall of 2009, we began the task of re-plastering, painting and wood work restoration in the choir loft.
The walls have been painted their original color, a soft gold. The wood work was restored to its natural
color. Recently purchased antique sconce lamps were installed in the choir loft.
We have painted the side arches in the back of the church, and adorned them with gold leaf paint. The
finished project will include Catholic saints or symbols within the circles.
St. Bernard Church Renovation and Restoration
In anticipation of our 125 year anniversary...

Gradually, the work was moved downstairs into the back of the church, continuing with the warm golden
color and wood restoration. Mass continued to be celebrated daily, with no interruption.
March 2010, the choir loft, balcony, and the back of the church are nearly complete, and will be
completely finished by Holy Week.
Phase I of our project is complete.
We would like to continue with the work. Long range goals might include similar restoration of the
rest of the church. In addition, we have plans to install a Fire Suppression System to help protect
this elegant wood structure, which is deeply rooted into the history of our community, its
parishioners, and our faith.
All of this preservation and restoration comes with a substantial price. Please continue to
contribute to the "Gallon by Gallon Fund", or make a direct contribution designated "Restoration of
St. Bernard Church". View our donation page for other ways to assist our parish.
